Terms of use

The rules for using Raw, in plain words. Please read them with the privacy policy.

Version 1.0. Last updated .

About these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and 1PERCENTLAB SOLUTIONS LTD, trading as 1% Labs ("we", "us"), for using Raw: the app for iOS and Android, and this website. We're a company registered in England and Wales (number 16817752). By using Raw you agree to them and to our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you don't agree, please don't use Raw.

Who can use Raw

  • You must be 13 or older. Raw asks for your birth year before anything else, and we delete any account we learn belongs to someone under 13.
  • If you're under 18, or under the age of adulthood where you live, read these terms with a parent or guardian. By using Raw you confirm they're happy for you to.
  • One account per person, for your own personal use. Don't make an account for someone else or pretend to be someone else.
  • You can't use Raw if the law where you live doesn't allow it, or if we've removed you from Raw before.

Your account

  • You sign in with your email and a one-time code. Keep your email account safe: anyone who can read it can sign in as you. Never share a sign-in code; we'll never ask for one.
  • You're responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us at hello@1percentlabs.com if you think someone else has used it.
  • Other players see your display name. It mustn't be offensive, pretend to be someone else, or include contact details or social handles. We may change a display name that breaks these rules.

Fair play

Raw only means something if it's you doing the thinking. So when you play:

  • don't use AI tools, search, other people or other apps to answer;
  • don't paste, script or automate answers, use bots, or tamper with the app;
  • don't share answers or answer keys, or exploit bugs (tell us about them instead);
  • don't use more than one account, or team up with others, to move ratings or league places.

The app checks how each card was played: paste attempts, leaving the app, timing, and being offline. An answer that breaks a Raw mode rule is marked unranked: it still counts for your streak and XP, but not for leagues. If we find cheating, we may remove points, results or badges, reset ratings, or suspend or close the account.

Some battle opponents are ghosts: practice opponents played by Raw when nobody near your level is around. They're always labelled, and a ghost battle never changes your battle rating.

What you write

Some cards, and duels, ask you to write. You keep the rights to what you write. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, mark, display and process it to run Raw: for example, to show a duel answer (without your name) to the players voting on it, and to include your answers in anonymous statistics about questions. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from what the privacy policy says we keep. We don't use what you write to train AI models.

Only write what's yours to share, and never personal details, yours or anyone else's.

Community rules and moderation

Our safety and community rules apply to everything you write or send in Raw, including display names, duel answers and reports. In short: no personal or contact details, no hate, bullying or harassment, no sexual content, no threats, nothing that encourages self-harm, nothing illegal, and no spam.

Duel answers are checked automatically before anyone sees them, and answers that might break the rules are held for a person to review. Anyone who can vote on a duel can report an answer, and a reported answer is hidden until our staff look at it. Staff can clear an answer, remove it, or remove it and warn the writer, and we may suspend or close accounts for serious or repeated breaks.

AI marking and scores

  • Many cards are marked automatically. Written answers are marked by an AI model against a marking guide, and AI marking can be wrong. If a mark looks wrong, report the question and a person will look at it.
  • Beat the AI compares you with an answer an AI gave when the question was made. It may not be the best answer an AI could give today.
  • Scores, ratings, XP, streaks, leagues and badges are for practice and fun. They aren't a qualification or an assessment of you, they have no cash value, and we may recalculate or reset them, for example to fix a marking mistake or after cheating.

Our questions

We write Raw's questions, some with the help of AI, and people check them. Mistakes still get through, so please tell us when you find one. Raw is for practice and learning, not professional, medical, legal or financial advice.

Purchases and subscriptions

Raw is free to download and play. We plan to offer an optional subscription, Raw+, later. When we do:

  • you'll buy it through the App Store or Google Play, under their terms for payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds;
  • the price and what it includes will be shown before you buy;
  • a subscription renews until you cancel it in your store account settings, and deleting your Raw account doesn't cancel it;
  • we'll update these terms before any paid feature launches.

Streak freezes, XP, badges and other things you earn in Raw have no cash value and can't be sold or transferred.

Our app and brand

Raw, its questions, design, characters (Blink, Stub and Ping) and brand belong to 1% Labs or the people who license them to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for your own non-commercial use while you follow these terms. Don't copy or scrape our questions, reverse engineer the app (except where the law allows it), or use our brand without permission.

Changes to Raw

We keep improving Raw, so features, modes, questions and rules (such as scoring and leagues) can change, and some may stop. We work to keep Raw running, but it may sometimes be unavailable, and most of it needs an internet connection.

Ending your account

You can stop using Raw and delete your account at any time, in the app (You, then Settings, then Delete account) or by email: see how to delete your account. We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms, if it's needed to protect other players, or if the law requires it. Where we can, we'll tell you why. The sections on what you write, disclaimers, liability, and law and disputes keep applying after an account ends.

Disclaimers

We provide Raw "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we don't promise that it will be free of errors or interruptions, or that its marks, scores and content are always right. If you live somewhere whose consumer laws give you rights that can't be excluded, nothing in these terms takes them away.

Liability

As far as the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or unforeseeable losses, or for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control. Our total liability to you for any claim about Raw is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and £100. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.

Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales. If you're a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country you live in, and you can bring a claim in its courts (in Scotland or Northern Ireland, for example, in your local courts). Please email us first: most problems can be sorted out quickly.

Apple and Google

If you got Raw from Apple's App Store:

  • these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for Raw and its content;
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Raw;
  • if Raw fails to meet a warranty that applies, you can tell Apple, and Apple may refund the price you paid (if any); Apple has no other warranty obligation for Raw;
  • we, not Apple, handle any claims about Raw, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection and intellectual property claims;
  • you confirm you're not in a country subject to a US government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.

Whichever store you use, you must also follow its own terms.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms, we'll post the new version here with a new date. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Raw after that, the new terms apply; if you don't agree, you can delete your account.
